Glimpses of Christmas

In true Kerry form, I'm super-late posting pictures even though I vowed in August to do it weekly.  Here are some pictures (in no particular order) of the last couple of weeks as we have celebrated our Savior's birth.

This made us all appreciate cake artists in a new way.

apples apples apples

The apple unit is always a favorite among the teachers.  It's no wonder why!  There are so many fun things we can learn about apples and so many things we can use apples with to learn about the world.

I made a sensory table of green split peas, red pom poms, and cinnamon sticks.  The kids have had fun scooping and measuring.  They have been lacing apple cards, and we've done a couple of apple art projects (which you'll see later!)  We've used red play-doh to make apples and have put them in order from biggest to smallest. 

The weather was so amazing today that we took group time and snack time outside!  Here, we looked at our apple life cycle cards and talked again about how the apple starts as a seed and grows into a tree that produces apples, which yield seeds-the cycle continues.

At the end of today, we pretended we were apple seeds which grew into trees.  As your child about eating the "apple" that his or her tree produced. 

Free art is almost always available for the kids.

The Lord is my rock and my salvation

Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures of our rock unit-mostly because I couldn't manage to get my camera to school (and my memory is shot on my phone).  Here is one of my friends doing rock art-they dropped paint smothered rocks down a piece of paper on an incline.  We talked about gravity on this one!

We also sang the old song about the wise man who built his house upon a rock-and we talked about how Jesus is our Rock!

A very corny day

 We had a lot of fun shucking corn a couple of weeks ago!  I loved how the kids needed help figuring out what end of the corn to start shucking-it was really cute. 

Later on, we cooked it and ate it! Yum yum!

How does your garden grow?

 This week, we've been learning about gardening and plants on the farm. The kids have learned about seeds, and what makes seeds grow.  We've used different seeds to make patterns.  We've planted plants, and hope to see them sprout in the next few days.  We've also gone digging for carrots and potatoes in the classroom.  We've pretended to be seeds and we grow when we are watered from the watering can, rain, and plenty of sunlight!
